IFMA Calgary Chapter -
Annual General Meeting - 2008
First, I would like to say thank you to the IFMA Board of Directors
2007-2008.
Greg Orser, David Straathof, Marie Caldwell, Dedre Toker, Candace
Maunder, Brad Krizan Kerry Armstrong and Peter Hallock.
We had a very successful year last year with many successful and well
attended events. Our success was a result of good planning and team work
that allowed us to have such a successful year. We hope to have as good a
year in 2008-2009.
Mandate - The IFMA Board of Directors have been working to build on the
strong traditions of the Association while at the same time keeping our eye
on the future to ensure the on-going viability and vitality of the
Association and the Facility Management program in Calgary.
Participation is key:
-
IFMA is an established
organization, well respected at local, national and international levels.
The organization provides much opportunity for personal and professional
growth. Everyone in the Facilities Management industry in Calgary should
consider joining IFMA.

Facility Manager's &
Facility Management Professional's should continually enrich their
knowledge base, raise their level of expertise and play a more significant
role in planning company strategies.

IFMA offers education,
information and networking opportunities. Organizing events and
coordinating programs such as Educational Sessions, Benchmarking, Lunch &
Learns, Facility tours and Social Events.

The success of this
organization, our IFMA, Calgary Chapter in particular, is based on the
participation of membership in our program.
Facility Managers &
Facility Management Professionals:
-
There are too few Facilities
Managers & Facility Management Professionals participating in our local
chapter. Our IFMA, Calgary Chapter membership requests / requires more
participation from FM's and FMP's.

As one of the few Facility
Managers on the IFMA, Calgary Board, I understand the need to encourage
FM's and FMP's to join the IFMA, Calgary Chapter at the Board level.

FM's & FMP's - this is your
organization. Bring along new ideas, new energy and help improve our
program.
Membership
New members is a good sign -
We have increased membership in the past year. At this time last year we
had 139 members, we are now up to 150 members. 109 Professionals, 41
associates. 13 active CFM's. 5 Base members.
We are encouraged by new membership. Our Chapter would like to build on
this. We would like the success of our events, programs, and networking
opportunities to encourage people in the business to join our Calgary
Chapter.
IFMA Scholarship:
Last year IFMA, the Calgary Chapter established an annual scholarship award
at Mount Royal College in Memory of Sherry Rodbourne. The Award will be
known as the; IFMA Calgary - Sherry Rodbourne Graduate Scholarship.
The scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who reflects the
wonderful qualities that were Sherry's character - Students who demonstrate
volunteer commitment & leadership and excel in the Directed, Field Study
Course. The $1000 award also comes with a one year complimentary IFMA,
Calgary Chapter Membership. The scholarship will be awarded in the next few
months at Mount Royal.
IFMA 2008-2009 Program Survey:
Last year we conducted a
survey via email / internet that gave our membership the opportunity to
make suggestions regarding the type of events, tour & programs that were of
interest. This information very much influenced the planning the IFMA
program last year. We will be conducting a similar survey in the next few
weeks and we encourage all members to participate in the survey and assist
us with your feedback.
IFMA Sponsorship Program:
New program this year. Set up
to encourage IFMA members and businesses to participate in our IFMA
program. The Sponsorship packages are Gold, Silver & Bronze and also
include a single Event Sponsorship as well. The Sponsorships were emailed
out to IFMA membership several weeks ago. We will be sending out a reminder
shortly.
IFMA Directory 2008-2009:
The cut off date for the 2008-2009 IFMA Directory will be October 24th.
There will be a reminder sent out for that cut off date as well.
