New Solutions For Commercial
Facilities Around IT Cabling Infrastructure
With current market conditions and
challenges around labour shortages and spiraling costs, the commercial and
institutional facilities management is constantly looking for innovative
ways of meeting these challenges and finding methods to significantly
improve project time in order to reduce risk and costs. Because of recent
standards changes in data cabling there are now new design criteria and
products that have been developed in the cabling arena, which have
materially changed the landscape for the better.
Product development and new installation practices provides tenants and
building owners in any type of new construction or reconfiguration
scenario, to view Data Cabling as an asset vs the repeatable throw away
expense which is the current standard.
Peter Crawley of PCC Group Ltd will share with you his experiences, design
and installation knowledge around the benefits of looking at these new
methods and products and why current trends in modularity are now perfectly
suited to the new cabling standards of today.

COORDINATING THE MOVE OF THE ALBERTA CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL
Coordinating the move of an office or
facility can be a very stressful time, especially when it is essential that
the move does not disrupt ongoing business operations.
In the case of the Alberta Children’s Hospital, its move involved more than
a year of intensive planning, challenging logistics, security, traffic
issues, and the transport of patients from one location to another. It
wasn’t just a case of shutting down a business on a Friday and moving on a
weekend. There was the challenge of working around having two sites
operating at the same time.
In total, the move took 52 days, 470 truckloads of equipment (more than
10,000 pieces), moving 2,500 staff, their offices and files, and dealing
with sensitive medical equipment.
Join IFMA Calgary Chapter on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 for lunch and hear
from John Rathwell of AMJ Campbell and Deborah Curley of the Calgary Health
Region, who coordinated the move of the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Learn
from them on the challenges of coordinating a difficult move and be
prepared the next time you have to move your office or facility.

GAINING EXECUTIVE LEVEL
SUPPORT FOR YOUR IWMS/CAFM TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVE
Michael Levine, Senior
Vice President at Business Resource Group will present an educational
overview of the application of IWMS/CAFM technology. He will focus on the
topic of gaining executive management support for technology
implementations by taking participants through proven steps followed to
gain approval. He will present them in a process form that hopefully you
can use.
As you know, to fund a technology project with costs in a magnitude of
$100k to over $1M, you need to gain executive level support. But, it’s more
than just a question of money. To successfully implement enterprise
technology solutions, you need buy-in from other areas such as Information
Technology, Finance, and Audit. Also, a major technology implementation
will result in significant changes in process and procedure. Process change
is inevitable and executive support helps to push it through the
organization.
The higher the level of project sponsorship, the easier that buy-in is to
get.
